Down the Chimney is a dreamlike installation, where groups of ungainly, penguin-like figures stand motionless beside upturned buckets that serve as seats to visitors. Tee chose her family as a starting point for this installation. She posed the question: How well do you know your family? She asked her father, mother and sister to record their memories on tape and then she edited these stories into a sparkling film, with the Tee family playing the roles. Three simultaneous video projections show a series of scenes in which costumed figures chase one another, fight out fierce battles with sticks and engage in other strange games. Down the Chimney is rooted in the rituals, private mythology and cultural background of the Tee family.
